Australia Zoo is located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. It opened in 1970 and was made popular by Steve Irwin and his internationally successful TV show “The Crocodile Hunter”. Now Bindi Irwin has taken on the role of Australia Zoo ambassador. The zoo’s most famous attraction is its crocodiles and the crocodile feeding
shows, but there is also a whole lot more to see and do at Australia Zoo.
Wildlife
As expected there is a great array of Australian wildlife at Australia Zoo from fury marsupials such as koalas and wombats to slithering reptiles like Australian snakes. There is also an exotic selection of wildlife from around the world that includes tigers, cheetahs and elephants.
Exhibits
Australia Zoo has poured a great deal of time, money and effort into developing three world class exhibits.
- Animal Planet Crocoseum – watch the natural behavior of Australia’s awesome crocodiles in a specially developed clear water pond.
- Tiger Temple – built to resemble Angkor Wat in Cambodia, watch tigers at play under water along side some wily cheetahs.
- Elephantasia – see elephants in Australia’s largest Elephant enclosure.
Shows
Have fun and get up close to some great animals at one or more of the many shows presented throughout the day. Shows include: Wildlife Warriors 101; The Snake Show; The Scare Files; and especially for kids there are the Australia Zoo Characters that wander the park plus a series of educational programs for groups.
Information
Australia Zoo is open from 9:00am to 4:30pm daily except Christmas Day.
